When Colin Sears, who has been the drummer in such legendary US punk bands as Dag Nasty, Alloy and The Marshes (as well as being the drummer in the very first line up of Fugazi – fact fans!) , relocated from Massachusetts to Portland a couple of years ago he began scouting around for people to play music with. His arrival coincided with the death throes of the band Underhand which featured Arne Cherkoss on guitar/vocals (who had previously played in the underrated Zoinks who released some great records on Dr Strange Records) and Christian Harvey on bass. The original intention of the band was for Colin to join Underhand, replacing their former drummer. However, as soon as the band started writing together they all realized that the newer material had a harder, edgier sound. Forsaking the old material and the old name the band set about writing the songs that make up their debut album ‘These Days Move Fast’. The band’s sound today reflects a combination of the members former bands – the melody of West Coast punk found in Zoinks is combined with the high energy, pounding drumming and heartfelt lyrics of Dag Nasty. Chock full of high tempo, aggressive yet always melodic, short, snappy songs, Handgun Bravado are here to remind us just what Punk Rock should be all about.
